All Rounder
Left-hand Bat
Left-arm Orthodox Spin
Dec 06, 1988
Shane Warne famously called him “The Rockstar” after Ravindra Jadeja lit up the Indian Premier League in 2008 with his all-round brilliance. A dynamic fielder, crafty left-arm spinner and fearless lower-order batter, Jadeja quickly emerged as the definition of a utility cricketer. While many first noticed him through his IPL exploits with Rajasthan Royals, his record in the longer format was equally impressive. He boasts three triple centuries in first-class cricket and an average close to 50—numbers that underlined his class early on.
A breakthrough Ranji season in 2008–09, where he piled up 739 runs and took 42 wickets, earned him an ODI debut in 2009 against Sri Lanka. Three years later, he broke into the Test squad, and India soon found in him a reliable all-rounder who added variety with the ball and stability with the bat. In the IPL, Jadeja became a cornerstone for Chennai Super Kings after being signed in 2012, remaining one of their marquee players ever since.
In recent years, Jadeja’s all-round excellence has continued to uplift Indian cricket. He played a key role in India’s triumphant ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign before signing off from the format with the trophy in hand. A year later, he was instrumental in India’s Champions Trophy win in 2025. His impact has been equally significant in Tests. During the 2025 tour of England, Jadeja struck five consecutive fifties—amassing 517 runs—and helped India draw the series. In doing so, he set the record for the most 50+ scores at No. 6 or lower in a Test series in England. His terrific form in recent times saw him becoming only the fourth all-rounder in Tests to score 4000+ runs and also pick 300+ wickets in the format.
Ravindra Jadeja’s journey remains a story of consistency, adaptability, and invaluable contributions across formats and thus cementing his legacy as one of India’s finest modern all-rounders.
