Wicket Keeper
Right-hand Bat
-
Jul 27, 2002
A trailblazer in women’s cricket from the state of Assam, Uma Chetry is a capable young wicketkeeper-batter and one to watch out for in the long-term. From modest beginnings in Kandulimari village in Bokakhat, Assam, where she used to walk long distances just to attend practice sessions, to become the first woman from India's Northeast region to represent the senior women's side, Uma has come a long way.
Uma was part of the Indian team that won the ACC Women’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup in 2023 and was also part of India’s Asian Games Gold medal winning team that same year.
She made her T20I debut for India in 2024, becoming the first female player from Assam and the Northeast to play for India. Uma created more history in 2025, making her ODI debut in India’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match against Bangladesh.
