Hailing from Chennai, Varun Chakaravarthy is one of India’s most intriguing spin talents, known for his mystery variations, sharp control, and ability to outsmart batters in the shortest format. An architect-turned-cricketer, his rise through Tamil Nadu’s domestic circuit was swift, with a breakthrough 2018–19 TNPL season that immediately put him on the national radar.
His consistent domestic performances earned him an India call-up, and he made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2021 before featuring in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup the same year.
Varun has since delivered several crucial spells for India, including a standout performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 where he claimed nine wickets, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker. He was also part of India’s victorious Asia Cup 2025 campaign.
Continuing to refine his leg-breaks, googlies, and sliders, Varun remains difficult for even top-tier batters to read. Today, he stands as a reliable option for India in the shortest format, valued for his control and his ability to strike at decisive moments.
